Supercomplex or Edifice Complex? (Part I)

“Edifice Complex: a keen desire of a public or educational administrator to construct a building or buildings.” Will Santa Fe be moving thousands of government employees to a newly constructed “Supercomplex” in the Las Soleras development on the south side of town near the WalMart Supercenter?  The project was spearheaded by Governor Richardson and is now on hold and under review by the Martinez administration. Will it happen along with a fifth Rail Runner station in a city of 80,000 people? It’s still unclear. But the Skarsgard Firm, one of the Las Soleras developers, held a fundraiser for Governor Martinez in October last year when her election was starting to look like a sure thing. I talk to Santa Fe New Mexican reporter Steve Terrell, and Tim Jennings, President Pro Tem of the New Mexico Senate, and a consistent critic of the project. Part II next time…. And contributor Kathy Schulz reviews The Art of Fielding  by Chad Harbach.

Why is no one jumping into this prime piece of real estate and building a gas station with fast food outlets? Isn’t there a freeway nearby? Contact me with an answer at
